NAB Show in Las Vegas

The SOC will present two panels on Monday, April 18th and Tuesday, April 19th in theater N261.  The panels are open to all NAB badge holders.  Additionally, the SOC will be hosting an industry Mixer on Monday April 18th from 7:30 – 9:30pm at Gordon Ramsey Pub at Caesars Palace.  Registration is required and closes Monday April 18th 9am PST. Meet the amazing camera operators who have gotten the shots that defy description and bend reality from your favorite feature films and television shows. Members of the Society of Camera Operators will screen clips and discuss how they did it, their onset challenges, and the gear they used to capture such breathtaking footage. Hear the operator’s backstories from behind-the-scenes, learn the techniques and tips to sharpen your craft and create better images.

“Visual Storytelling and the Role of the Camera Operator”
What storytelling choices are made when reading the script and working closely with the Director and Actors? How does the Camera Operator approach the framing and creative decisions that give us that onscreen experience? Listen to this panel of Camera Operators discuss the creative choices that are made on set. Iconic movie and TV clips will be screened and the onset creative choices and challenges will be discussed.

General Membership Breakfast Meeting on May 1

Mark you calendar for the general membership breakfast meeting 10am on Sunday May 1st at Tiffen Burbank – 2815 Winona Ave, Burbank California.  Join your fellow members and support the Society with your attendance.  Hot breakfast will be served and the meeting will be conducted in the Tiffen’s main lobby.

JL Fisher Open House & BBQ on May 14

Join the SOC at the J.L. Fisher, SOC, ICG & ASC 10th Annual Open House & BBQ on May 14 from 9am – 4pm.  Hugh Litfin, SOC will be moderating the SOC’s “Moving Camera Seminar” from 10:45am – 12noon.  The seminar addresses the working relationship between the Cinematographer, Camera Operator, 1st AC, Key Grip and Dolly Grip, when using dollies and jib arms.

The SOC’s raffle drawing will take place at 2:15pm supporting The Vision Center Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Purchase your raffle tickets before the drawing at the SOC booth.

SOC at Cine Gear Expo 2016

The Society of Camera Operators will participate in this year’s annual Cine Gear Expo LA 2016 exhibits and seminars, held on June 3-4 at The Studios at Paramount in Hollywood, California.

In addition to hosting a booth, which attracts much attention with the Panavision Panaflex, and distributing the Camera Operator magazine, the SOC will present a panel on Friday, June 3rd from 5:15 – 6:15pm.

The Society has many events coming up over the Spring and Summer months.  Volunteer assistance is needed to represent the SOC in varying capacities.  Be part of the SOC events team for the JL Fisher BBQ, Cinegear Expo LA and the Chapman Leonard Showcase.
