The Society of Camera Operators offers a variety of education to its members and the production community. The educational offerings are both virtual and in person taught by working professionals.

Hands on Workshops
The SOC hosts several in person workshops covering a variety of camera topics with hands-on instruction including Underwater Camera Operating Workshops, Steadicam workshops, Remote and Geared Head workshops and more.

Mentorship Program
The SOC Mentorship Program is designed to cultivate term-limited, one-on-one professional relationships between our most battle-tested veteran members and those looking for guidance in elevating proficiency, transitioning to a new field, or otherwise navigating their burgeoning careers as camera operators.
Live sessions are open to the community and recorded for future use for the membership in the member portal. For membership information, categories and costs.

SOC's Inspirational Roundtables
The Inspirational Roundtables program features Camera Operators discussing what inspires them, how this has impacted their work and what has been the largest creative contribution in their lives. These video discussion were hosted on Zoom from May 6th through July 29th, 2020.

SOC Lecture Series, Camera Operating
In Partnership with AFI
Ten part series, three hours each on camera operating was delivered live to the AFI Cinematography Directing fellows in Spring 2020. Each class is accompanied by segments by discussion topics.

Making The Transition to Narrative
This four part series featured camera operators that have successfully moved from non-scripted to scripted projects and/or who work in both genres. Each week will feature three camera operators that will discuss the topics that are key to working in non-scripted and narrative and how to better your skills, knowledge and operating.

The Secret Life of the Camera Head - Virtual Workshop - Part 1 & 2
Join Geoff Haley, on location, and Mitch Dubin, via Zoom, for a virtual workshop discussing and demonstrate the functions, proper techniques, and practical applications of the Fluid Head, Gear Head, Lambda Head and Remote Head and the best applications for use. Mitch and Geoff will supplement theoretical discussions with visual demonstrations as well as tips and tricks for achieving the best results in the most challenging of operating circumstances.
