SOC Sanctioned Events Submission Form

Do you have an idea for an event that you would like Society of Camera Operators to produce? It is important to the SOC to participate and allocate resources to events that are significant to the membership.  We value your input and want to hear from you. The Society has added a review and approval process through our sanctioned event forms and are online which both members and corporate members use to submit an event. This will allow the board better understanding of the resources needed to successfully participate, the purpose and benefit for the Society.  Please fill out a form, and submit to Heather Ritcheson – socoffice@soc.org. Requests will be reviewed at the following board meeting and decision communicated back to the submitters as to the next steps.  We look forward to presenting more events for our members in addition to participation outside of Los Angeles as being a focus.

SOC in NYC

The SOC presented their “How Did You Get That Shot?” panel at NAB NYC Show on Thursday November 12th.  Dave Chameides, SOC and David J Thompson, SOC joined the stage with SOC President, Mark August, SOC moderating.  Clips where shown from their project, Shame, Donnie Darko, and Mockingjay Part 1.  A discussion on how the shot was obtained, challenges on set and how difficult situations were addressed, such as shooting in crowds while climbing stairs, working around fire, an excessive heat and un-steady footing.  On set safety was a key discussion point in the role that the Operator plays in supporting the safety standards on set at all times.   Photos and autographs were given by the panelists to the enthusiastic audience.

After the panel, the SOC hosted a mixer at Clyde Frazer’s close to the Javitz center, where the panel took place.  Roughly 40 east coast members were present and got a chance to connect, discuss their trade and meet new members.

Thank you to Dave Chameides, SOC, David J Thompson, SOC and Mark August, SOC for their contribution of time and willingness to share their expertise.
