After her debut feature was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay (for which it also won), writer-director Emerald Fennell’s follow-up to Promising Young Women has been highly anticipated. Saltburn, in turn, is lavish and provocative, featuring terrific performances and striking cinematography with dramatic use of color and shadow in its 1.33:1 Academy ratio frame.
Social misfit Oliver Quick finds himself enamored with his attractive, popular, and wealthy Oxford classmate, Felix Catton, and begins a campaign to integrate himself into his group of friends. Eventually, Oliver is invited to spend the summer at Felix’s family’s sprawling estate, Saltburn, where his obsession continues to deepen and fester. Saltburn is written and directed by Emerald Fennell and stars Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Alison Oliver, and Archie Madekwe.
