General Membership Meeting October 25
The General Membership Meeting took place October 25 hosted by Chapman/Lenard in Los Angeles. The meeting kicked off with members catching up over breakfast and then on to the board’s meeting. SOC President, Mark August, SOC introduced Mr. Chapman, thanking him and his team for their gracious hosting and sponsorship of the general breakfast meeting not to mention their generous donation of $15,000 in behalf of the SOC to The Vision Center at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
After the business of the SOC was conducted, members got a demonstration from Mr. Chapman of the 43′ Hydrascope with raptor base and CL Head in addition to ample hands on with their new technology throughout the Chapman/Leonard facility.
SOC Holiday Party
December 12 from 5pm – 7pm, the SOC will be hosting a holiday party at the SOC offices in Burbank, CA. All members are invited to join us in celebrating the holidays with our friends and colleagues. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
We will also be hosting a NYC holiday party – details to come.
New Look for Membership Cards
The Society of Camera Operators is introducing a redesigned member identification card. Active, Charter and Retired Active Members should have already received their new cards back in September in their Board of Governors ballot envelopes. We will begin distributing the new cards to all other members in good standing starting December 1. Both the current and the new designs will be valid throughout the transition process and both will be accepted at all invited film screenings.
If you have not received your new membership card by the year’s end, please email our Operations Manager, Heather Ritcheson at socoffice@soc.org to confirm we have your updated address.
Train on the SOC’s Gearhead
Do you need to hone your pan and tilt skills? Come into the SOC office in Burbank and train on the GearNex Geared Head or the Panaflex Platinum that has been generously loaned to the SOC by Panavision. The office is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10am-5pm. Practice precision movements drawing circles, infinity symbols or your name in cursive with our provided practice charts. Call (818) 563-9110 to reserve your practice time now. Equipment is not available for loans.
